In 1907 Denton North Carolina becomes a Town. On March 11, Wade H. Phillips introduced a bill in the state legislature to incorporate Denton N.C. as a town. The resulting act named J. Earl Varner as mayor, with B.I. Harrison, Arthur Davis, J. M. Daniel, L.A. Newsom, and Jesse C. Morris as commissioners. Dr. A. Anderson was town physician and John F. Carrol Chief of Police, holding office for one year or until the first Monday in May ,1908,the day fixed for the first biennial election.

My grandfather, Wiley Verse Butler, from Pittsboro, built the railroad depot in Southmont and may have built the one in Denton. I would love to find photos of the depot in Southmont and know more about the one in Denton to determine if he built that one.
